In the list of the top 50 greatest legends of Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo is only ranked 2nd even though he is the number 1 scorer in the glorious history of the Spanish Royal team.
The prestigious Daily Mail (UK) has just released the top 50 names who have had the best performances in the 114-year history of Real Madrid. Topping the list is the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano. Ranked 2nd on this list is Cristiano Ronaldo and ranked 3rd is another famous name in the glorious history of “Los Blancos”, former striker Francesco “Paco” Gento.
Real’s history has always witnessed many outstanding stars.
Di Stefano played for Real from 1953 to 1964, during which he scored 307 goals in 397 matches in all competitions for the Spanish Royal team (in La Liga alone, the legend scored 216 goals in 282 matches).
Before he made his debut for Real 63 years ago, the “White Vultures” had only won 2 national championships. But in 11 years with this team, he helped the club win 8 La Liga championships and 5 C1 Cup championships (the predecessor of the current Champions League). Notably, Di Stefano scored 7 goals for Real in those memorable European finals.
Di Stefano was chosen by the Daily Mail as Real Madrid’s greatest player of all time
If in the previous generation, Real owned outstanding strikers like Di Stefano or Puskas, now they have Cristiano Ronaldo – an equally dangerous “killer”. Since joining “Los Blancos” from MU in the summer of 2009 with a record value of 80 million pounds at that time, CR7 has scored 364 goals in 348 matches for the Bernabeu team in all competitions, reaching an average rate of approximately 1.05 goals/match.
The Portuguese superstar has now surpassed Raul to become the greatest scorer in the history of “Los Blancos”. Ronaldo once set a record of scoring 17 goals for Real in the Champions League in the 2013/14 season and helped the club complete its ambition of “Decima” (winning the 10th European championship). Last season, he also “scored” 16 times in this prestigious arena and was an indispensable factor in bringing the 11th C1/Champions League trophy to Real’s trophy room.
CR7 has won 2 Champions League titles with Real in the past 3 years.
The remaining 7 names in the top 10 greatest legends of all time of the Santiago Bernabeu team are, in order, Ferenc Puskas, Zinedine Zidane, Raul Gonzalez, Iker Casillas, Amancio Amaro, Pirri and Emilio Brutagueño.
In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, six other players in the current Real squad were also named in the list of 50 most famous names in the history of “Los Blancos”, including Sergio Ramos (13), Gareth Bale (15), Pepe (31), Karim Benzema (41), Marcelo (42) and Luka Modric (43). Not to mention, their current coach – Zidane is also included.
31 of these 50 legends have had the honor of lifting the C1/Champions League trophy with Real – the team that still holds a very difficult to break record of owning 11 of the most prestigious club titles on this old continent.
In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, another Ronaldo was also honored to be in the ranks of Real’s 50 greatest legends of all time, Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, also known as Fat Ronaldo, when the former striker nicknamed “The Alien” was ranked 21st.
