Atlanta United harshly criticized David Beckham after defeating his MLS team Inter Miami early on the morning of November 10 (Vietnam time).
In a shock result, MLS side Atlanta United defeated Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 3-2 in the Eastern Conference playoffs, eliminating their Florida rivals.
Atlanta midfielder Matías Rojas opened the scoring early, but Inter Miami’s Jamal Thiare scored twice to give the visitors a lead before half-time. Despite Messi’s equaliser, the home side were forced to concede defeat as Bartosz Slisz scored the winner for Atlanta United in the 76th minute.
Immediately after the match, Atlanta United quickly went on social network X to celebrate the victory and did not hesitate to “tease” the famous MLS team.
They used the “be honest” meme from David and Victoria Beckham’s Netflix documentary series BECKHAM to highlight their impressive performance against their Eastern Conference rivals.
This meme puts Inter Miami in the role of Victoria, who is claiming to be the best team in Major League Soccer (MLS), while Atlanta, playing the role of David Beckham, asks Inter Miami to “be honest” and admit that they have repeatedly failed their opponents.
This meme was inspired by a scene from the Netflix documentary series about the life and career of English and Manchester United football legend David Beckham.
In the humorous clip, Victoria – who is best known as “Posh” from the Spice Girls – is chatting to an interviewer and saying that both she and David grew up in middle-class families.
However, Beckham did not let his wife get away with that comment and intervened to “correct the mistake,” asking Victoria to “be honest” and admit that when she was growing up, her father drove a Rolls-Royce.
Atlanta compared the famous moment to the fact that Inter Miami – the team owned by Beckham – is often considered the best team in America thanks to an impressive lineup of players such as Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.
However, the head-to-head record shows the opposite: in six encounters between the two teams, Atlanta has won four matches, while Miami has won only one match, with the remaining confrontation ending in a draw.
