Sinner had earlier kicked off the season-ending ATP Finals event with a win over Alex de Minaur and hopes to become the first Italian player to top the year-end ATP rankings.
Admitting that he was very lucky, Sinner, who won the ATP No. 1 trophy, shared: “This is a very special occasion to share that in Italy. I want to thank you all over the world for your support, thank you to my support team. Without the people close to me, who understand me… it would be very difficult.”
Sinner’s 2024 season was previously marred by controversy, after he tested positive twice for the steroid clostebol in March.
He was initially cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency, but in late September the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) filed a lawsuit, demanding a ban of up to two years.

After winning the opening match of the ATP Finals on November 10, Italian tennis player Sinner officially succeeded Novak Djokovic, the Serbian legend who set a record of eight times ending the year as the world’s number 1 male player.
Also attending the award ceremony, Boris Becker – the German legend who spent 221 days at No. 1 in 1991 but never ended the year at the top position shared: “Certainly, despite Carlos Alcaraz and other competitors, Jannik will still be the world’s No. 1 tennis player for a long time.”
