He currently holds the “Unprecedented” record of 415 weeks at the top of the world rankings and 24 Grand Slam titles along with countless other records. However, as his age increases, his form is declining, Djokovic is far from the Top 4 and is racing to enter the Top 8 best players of the year to play at the ATP Finals.
Sinner comfortably holds the No. 1 position, Djokovic is about to shake the top 4 (Tennis rankings 9/17).
Sinner holds No. 1 position for 15th week, Djokovic faces difficulties in the 2024 ATP Finals race.
With no major ATP tournaments taking place this week, the men’s singles top 30 remained unchanged. Jannik Sinner continues to consolidate his No. 1 position in the ATP rankings as he enters his 15th week at the top.

With 11,180 points and six titles this season, including two Grand Slams on hard courts in Melbourne and New York, Sinner is closing in on Daniil Medvedev’s 16-week reign as No. 1.
Meanwhile, Djokovic, although still in 4th place on the ATP rankings with 5,560 points, is having difficulty entering the top 8 players with the best results of the season, according to the Race to Turin rankings.
With this list, Djokovic is currently ranked 9th with 3,260 points, 45 points behind Alex De Minaur in 8th place. This means that the Serbian player currently does not have a place in the 2024 ATP Finals, the event considered the “5th Grand Slam” of the season, scheduled to take place in November in Italy.
Most recently, Nole expressed that reaching the ATP Finals is not a priority goal, he mainly focuses on Grand Slams and events in the Serbian national team. This opens up a great opportunity for Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, and Alex De Minaur in the race to compete for tickets to the 2024 ATP Finals.
There were no major changes among the top players either, with Alexander Zverev in second place with 7,075 points, and Carlos Alcaraz in third place with 6,690 points. Medvedev, ranked fifth, with 5,475 points, was only 85 points behind Djokovic.
Two tennis players Ly Hoang Nam (Vietnam) and Rafael Nadal (Spain) both kept their points from last week. If Nadal did not change his ranking, Hoang Nam would drop 4 places, because his opponent behind him rose.
Djokovic plays the entire ATP 500 to “farm” points to enter the race for the 8 great heroes
Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, suffered a shock early exit in the third round of the 2024 US Open. The surprising loss to Alexei Popyrin meant Djokovic failed to advance to the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in more than seven years. The loss also marked a “Grand Slam-less” 2024 season for the 37-year-old.

After the US Open, Djokovic admitted that he was not at his best at the tournament. He shared: “I felt like I wasn’t really myself on the court in New York. I wasn’t well prepared, so the pressure was higher before each match, even more than before the Olympic final.”
However, Djokovic achieved his biggest goal of the season: winning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It was the 37-year-old’s shining moment, when he overcame Carlos Alcaraz in a rematch, after losing in the Wimbledon final.
Djokovic has endured a lot of pressure from himself and his fans, but at the Paris Olympics, the Serbian player was truly the best version of himself.
With the defeat at the US Open, Djokovic is currently ranked 9th in the race for a ticket to the ATP Finals, a tournament that gathers the 8 best players of the year. To be able to participate in this important tournament, Djokovic is forced to participate in lower-level tournaments to earn points.
Djokovic’s upcoming schedule is expected to include two Masters 1000 tournaments: Shanghai and Paris. In addition, he may play an ATP 500 tournament, possibly Vienna or Basel, to accumulate enough points to qualify for the ATP Finals.
Djokovic understands that participating in the ATP Finals is the most important goal remaining in the 2024 season, and he is willing to play more to achieve that.
Last year, Djokovic did not participate in the Shanghai Masters and won the Paris Masters. Therefore, he will only have a maximum of 1,500 points if he wins the above 2 events and an expected ATP 500 tournament.
